Regional Movie Review - Anukokunda Oka Roju

This movie was highly rated by many reviews so got the attention of this reviewer. Directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti whose earlier film 'Aitey’ did well and had a novel theme, Anu kokunda deals with the travails of a young girl Sahasra (Charmi)a struggling music artist  who falls into a trap thanks to the after effects of a drug that is spiked into her drink at a friend’s party one night. Two days later she finds herself in her own bed with a pen cap in her hand and has no recollection of what happened. The story is trying to figure out what happened during this 48 hour period.

Police officer Suresh Reddy ( Jagapathi Raju) who is under suspension from work, steps in to help her and plods her in putting the puzzle pieces together. While he is doing that and drinking straight from a juice box  at any given moment, this reviewer was trying to do the same by putting the various sub plots in the film together and  trying to make sense of  the story. Meanwhile Sahasra escapes two attempts on her life. Who is trying to kill her and why ? I dont want to spoil the suspense by telling you the story. Whether it is the taxi driver Sashank, or his brother, her friend’s (Pooja Bharati) enigmatic silence, the old man or the swami/tantric gang, we are left to figure how they are related and connected to each other

Like all puzzles however this one too is straightened out and all is well that ends well. The good points of the film are that an element of suspense and anticipation exists, but the bad is it does not sustain. The main actors display some good acting prowess. Samples of Telugu English dialogue in the film:  "u want to come inside from outside", "u dance, I glance". The music directed by MM Keeravani for this film is decent and has singers like Sunidhi Chauhan and unusual titles like  'righto lefto' and  "I wanna swing' . Overall not a bad film for its story line and purpose and a few laughs.
