Kabeer – A musical dance drama in Hindi

Actor singer Shekhar Sen presents the story of the mystic who used his poetic brilliance and divine inspiration to spread the message of Love, Peace & Harmony on Sunday, April 23 at 4:00 pm in Brooks Middle School; Lincoln, MA.

â€œShekhar Bhai is a multi-talented and creative genius; unbelievable, till one sees "Kabeer". He combines in himself a stage-actor, singer, composer, script-writer, historian, linguist, social-worker/reformer, etc etc. His play Kabeer, when I saw it, I was spell-bound. I felt first of all, it is the duty of every Indian to see it, at least once in one's lifetime. It is indeed an eye-opener in life. People around the world, including social and political leaders, should see it to evolve into better human beings. There are so many lessons for us to learn from it. His other plays "Vivekananda" and "Tulsidas" are equally important works. Shekharbhai is serving mankind thru these plays” , says Pandit Nayan Ghosh, an eminent tabla and sitar player, son of tabla wizard Pandit Nikhil Ghosh and nephew of Pandit Pannalal Ghosh, who pioneered flute into the Indian Classical Music.

The play “Kabeer” has received critical acclaim all over the world. This two hour long play unfolds making of this revolutionary social reformer who was found floating in a pond, on his day of birth by a Muslim couple. Touching enactment of Kabeer's marriage with Loyee, meeting with Sikandar Shah Lodhi & other important incidence underlines Shekhar's sterling performance.

“I started my career as a musician. I had given over 1000 concerts and had released over a 188 cassettes. Inspired by the life of the great saints I wrote a play. My first play was “Tulasi” I showed the play to the great playwright Dr. Dharamveer Bharathi. He was impressed and encouraged me to produce the play” says Sen.

How did this singer turn into an actor? “Dr. Bharathi insisted that only I should act in this play for it required the character to have Bhakti and a strong passion for the subject matter. He felt that my talents as a singer would lend great force to the presentation. The show has been a tremendous success.” says Sen.

“The message of Kabir is timeless. His poetry is fabulous.  I think that has contributed greatly to the success of the play. We were actually invited to do the play in the Lok Sabha, the only play that has ever been done in the Lok sabha” says Sen.

Here are some audio samples of the play.
