ATFS To Hold Chemisty Foundations Workshops

What are Chemistry Foundations Workshops?
These workshops are an opportunity that ATFS Learning Center is providing to students of high school who are interested in learning the subject of Chemistry above and beyond their school textbooks. These are series of 2 or 3 dedicated Saturdays during the spring of 2006 where children will be spending quality Chemistry hours our ATFS facility in Shrewsbury, MA. These workshops promise a wealth of Chemistry knowledge, learning materials, fundamental concepts and understanding tips and tricks. These workshops are modeled after the high school curriculum and geared towards SAT II preparation and “chemistry college” years.

Who should attend?
Advanced 8th graders with interest in science, high school children who are taking the SAT II this year and those aspiring to do further studies in Chemistry. 

What are the benefits?
The greatest benefit is to be able to develop a love for the subject. The students will be taught by very experienced faculty who is not only passionate about teaching but is also very well respected in the world of Chemistry. Each individual workshop is designed to cover various aspects of the subject in a regular, comfortably paced , exciting , and stimulating environment.

Who is the instructor?
Dr. Mukund Chorghade, is the President and Chief Scientific Officer of D & O Pharmachem, where he provides consultations to major American and European pharmaceutical companies on collaborations with worldwide academic, government and industrial laboratories. He is also a faculty member / Visiting Professor at several academic institutions such as Harvard, Tufts, Wellesley College, and University of Pune. He is nationally and internationally renowned for his knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of chemistry that will provide a fun and exciting learning experience.

What topics will be covered?
March Workshop 1 covers: Matter, Energy and atoms (structure), Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding and Chemical Formulas, Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry and Chemistry and our health and environment.

April Workshop 2 covers: Phases of Matter and their characteristics, Gas Laws and Change of State, Solutions and ions in Solution and  Acids and Bases

May Workshop 3 covers: Chemical Reactions, Chemical Equilibrium , Reaction energy and kinetics,Oxidation and Reduction Reactions, and Solving Chemistry Problems

June Workshop 4 covers: Organic Chemistry:  A basic Primer; Fuels, pharmaceuticals and polymers - What do they have in Common
It is an “amino world” Sugars (carbohydrates) leave a sweet taste in the mouth.

What is the duration of each workshop?
These workshops are conducted on Saturdays only. Each workshop is designed to be 2 – 3 Saturdays from 10:00 – 3:00 p.m.

What is the cost of the each workshop?
The cost of each workshop is between $200 - $300 .
