December – A time for giving and receiving. At
Lokvani, we are fortunate that we are able to do both of these. We give
our readers news about the community and a forum to
acknowledge their talents and we receive your whole hearted support.
Here is a case in point that will bring this into perspective. Last
week our general email box was filled with tips, queries and requests.
One in particular stood out. A reader sent us an email about his
relative who was seriously ill. A friend of his had told him that he had read an article in Lokvani
about a free/affordable clinic run by Indian doctors for visitors and
elder patients. "Could you please help me?â€He asked Anoop
Kumar, our team member immediately replied, “Here are the links you are
looking for†and wished him the best of luck. A few days later we
received an email grateful for the support offered and that
the doctors were very helpful. It is at times like this that everything we do at Lokvani makes it worthwhile. Our
lead stories this time are informative and inspiring. Dr. Vandana
Krishna give us insights into Allergies and how best to handle them and
Dr. Gopal Modadugu, World Food Prize Winner for 2005 talks about fish
farming and how Aquaculture has transformed the lives of the poor in developing nations. Lokvani
team experienced a moment of Indian American pride when they stood
at Time Square and watched as the Jumbotron
featured Indian American youth who were the national winners of the
prestigious Siemens-Westinghouse science competition. Events to look for are
Meru Foundation’s talk on Cosmology and Indian Architecture this
Saturday and Chhoti Si Asha’s Calendar Drive. All for a worthy cause! Wishing all our readers a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays. May all your wishes come true! Lokvani Team Nirmala Garimella, Ranjani Saigal, Anil Saigal and Anoop Kumar
