Kasak, which stars Lucky Ali and Pakistani bombshell Meera, has stirred a lot of interest both in terms of the erotic storyline and the music of  M. M. Kreem fresh from the success of the supernatural folktale Paheli. M. M. Kreem is an immensely talented music maestro who has stayed under the radar for a few years now. His music is mellow and subtle tinged with the  poignant sharpness of sorrow. His music in “Jism” and “Rog” are mind-blowing especially the song in “ Rog” “ Guzar na jaaye” by K.K and Shreya Ghosal which is a gem.

The first track in “Kasak” is a short piece by M.M Kreem himself “ Bechainiyon mein lamha” is a lovely piece with great background vocals and guitar riffs. The piece is soulful but too short: it whets the appetite to hear the rest of the album

“ Chandni hai Khoyee Khoyee” showcases the voices of Lucky Ali and Anuradha Paudwal. The song is pleasant and it grew on me after a couple of listens. Ms. Paudwal sounds shrill in places but Lucky Ali is a perfect foil for the ears . An easy listen!

“Jaana hai jaana hai” is the heavyweight number in the album. Lucky Ali presents the song with his mellow, rough around the edges voice, with soulful exuberance. The lyrics by Sameer are a cut above the rest. “ Sab raaste naaraaz hain, manzil ki aahton se raahi begana hai” Kya baat hai! The music is sweet and supportive.

Madhushree and Jagjit Singh who add their own flair to the song with excellent results also render the song.

Gayatri Iyer in “ Main na jaanoon kaisi kasak hai” is a sexy number with powerful vocals by Ms. Iyer. The music is rahmanesque but forgettable.

Shreya Ghosal delightfully renders” Sansein madham hain” in her incredibly supple trained voice in a number that is one of the best in the album. Enough said! Its not as good a song as “ Jadoo hai nasha hai ‘ from Jism but a good song, nonetheless.

â€œTodh diya” is sung by M. M. Kreem who brings pathos in this song about unfaithfulness and the destruction of the trust implicit in a loving relationship

Lucky Ali and Sunidhi Chauhan in “ Yeh Zindagi” is a lift from a A.R Rahman song ( I think from the movie Jeans) . The song is passable.

All in all, the album of Kasak is an easy listen,.
