City of Lakes

A mirage of white marble and colored glass
rising from the water.
Born of time and history
against a backdrop of sun-parched mountains and endless azure sky.

Jewel-toned veils draped around fragrant, feminine bodies
move through doorways and streets
in a rhythm of timelessness.

Rooms with inlaid mirrors reflect back on themselves
to contain the past
in a silent agreement with stars, stone, earth and sky
to ignore the progression of time…
