Bollywood Baatein

From WahIndia
06/02/2005

This Week was a little sad for bollywood with the sudden demise of two legendary personas of the film world. Actor turned politician Sunil Dutt and Filmmaker Ismail Merchant.   Sunil Dutt started his film career in 1955 with the film Railway Platform and has many hits to his credit. Some of his most renowned films include  Padosan,  Sadhana, Sujata, Main Chup Rahoongi, Gumrah, Waqt, Mera Saaya, Humraaz, and  the latest Munnabhai MBBS. He also starred in the first Indian Oscar nominated film Mother India. Presently he was a part of the sequel to Munnabhai MBBS.

Merchant made his debut with In Custody, based on a novel by Anita Desai, and starring Shashi Kapoor, which won National Awards for best picture, best actor, best costume and best production design. Merchant in partnership with James Ivory made 40 films, including A Room with a View, Howard's End, and Heat and Dust. Merchant will always be remembered for his contributions to bridging the East and west.

While the spotlight may have shone on Mallika Sherawat and Aishwarya Rai for obvious reasons, Aamir Khan in his own quiet, understated way won the day at Cannes. After Pather Panchali, the next big event was the private screening of Ketan Mehta’s The Rising. After the screening, the film was quickly snapped up; in short, all international territories were bought. I’m fairly confident 'The Rising' will get an Oscar!' says Farrukh Dhondy, who’s the script writer of five movies which were screened at the Cannes festival.

The digitized and colorized version of Mughal-E-Azam became a big hit not only in India, but also across the globe, the script of the epic will soon hit the stands. Writer-documentary filmmaker Nasreen Munni Kabir has almost finished editing the book, which is expected to release this July. The book will be a tri- lingual: in Devnagiri, English and Urdu. The book will be pictorial in nature, but will focus on the script.
It is the first time in the history of bollywood that a script of a classic film is being turned into a book, including the dialogues of all the actors. Mughal-E-Azam will soon be released in Pakistan too.

After her kissing scene in Mukesh Bhatt’s Nazar created hubbub all over Pakistan. Actress Meera dares to bare again….. in Rajeev Babbar's Kasak. If the grapevine is to be believed, the actress has gone a step ahead doing a lot of skin show and shooting a love- making scene with Lucky Ali. We are not sure how the censor board will react to this, but we surely do wish Meera all the best and hope that this film doesn’t rake yet another controversy.

Arjun Rampal might not have seen much success in his filmi journey so far but he still is the archetypal hot and hunky actor. His hands are still full with plum offers from filmmakers. Arjun says, "I have learnt from my past mistakes. I'm glad that though my films haven't been successful, at least I have not been labelled a 'wooden' actor. And it's only a matter of time and getting the right role for me to strike back.Arjun is expecting a lot from his upcoming movie 'Yakeen' - it's a psychological love story. In the movie he’s playing the role of a man who loses his memory in an accident. After that, he starts suspecting his wife of having an extra-marital affair," Well, we wish him all the best and hope that he gives us a hit at the BO.
