Youth Corner: The Pack On My Back My Backpack

As an interesting activity, I will take all you readers out on a day in the life of a backpack. I will be using backpack language of course just to make sure you know. Alright lets begin.

Buff and slizze. I Shouldered and then carried. Thrashed on ground. Slizze out. Hung up on Locker just like great bag. Slizze out and in for rest of day. Then Shouldered and close locker. Carried to house and put down. Slizze and wait. Slizze out then zip and close. Packed and ready for tomorrow. I sleep.

Not very interesting is it? Wait, what do you mean you dont understand backpacknese? Its a very common language. Oh fine I'll translate it for you.

A child pushes me as he wakes up. He slides in his lunch. He puts me on his shoulders and then I get carried to school. I get slammed on the ground in school. He takes out his books. I get hung up on my locker just like the great bag did so many years ago. For the rest of the the day the child takes things out  and put things in me. I then get carried on his shoulders and he closes his locker. I get carried to his house then put down. He takes something out and I wait. He puts something back and zips me. I'm packed and ready for tomorrow. I sleep knowing that I did a job well done.

I have always thought backpacks were very useful. They carry around all your materials that you need for school. They are also very good because of how they can fit many things in a tight space. Many people who go to school have a lot of their most precious things in a backpack. The main question is, why backpacks? Why are backpacks the item that most people use in schools? Why not duffel bags or saddle bags or even suitcases? The answer is in backpacks straps. The straps are one of the most important parts of a backpack even though many don't notice it.

The straps are the things that define a backpack. How many times do you see a backpack without its straps? A backpack is to its strap like a human is to its brain, you can't live without it. Shouldering a backpack is much easier than tiring your arms carrying any other bag. Dragging a suitcase along isn't an option either because of several reasons:

  1. Someone else in your family probably needs it sometime or another.
  2. They are hefty and big and might not fit in a small locker.
  3. They don't bend easily and they stay in one shape.
  4. Suitcases make extremely annoying noises when pulled across the ground.

(And I mean extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely annoying. Do you know how annoying it is to be walking in the airport where all the suitcases are like creeeeeeeeeeek or    budumbubudumbu or even sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek ?)

As you can see, Backpacks are the best because of their straps. But another thing that defines a backpack is the way it can squeeze into different shapes.

Backpacks can be squeezed into different shapes which makes them very vital to school. Lockers are usually very small and so anything you put in it must be able to fit. And backpacks do just that. Backpacks can be pushed into different shapes so it can usually fit into any locker you have. Duffel bags are way too wide to fit in a locker comfortably. Suitcases aren't good for a locker's health either (see number 3 above). The one thing that can fit is a saddle bag. Saddle bags aren't very useful because of how they don't give much room to store items.

The last things that make backpacks so great are the way backpacks can store so many different things. A standard backpack has at least one big pocket and 2 side pockets. That's a very good amount of space to store any books you need for school. It is also very stretchy which means that they can fit tons and tons of things. The things that other bags can't do are store many things in tight spaces.

One thing that is against it is how extremely heavy a backpack feels. You walk to school with this humongous heavy thing on your back and come back from school with it being heavier. This is probably one reason for people slouching. Carrying around a huge backpack really hurts your shoulders after a while. The bad thing is that when a backpack is heavy you can't lean too far forward because you'll fall over and you can't stand up straight because you will fall backwards on your backpack possibly breaking any fragile contents you might have stored in it. So you obviously have to slouch a bit.

In conclusion, Backpacks are very important bags. They help the most in school especially because they have straps, they can bend into different shapes and they can hold many items. So I must say very strongly, YAY BACKPACKS!!!

Say it with me now YAY BACKPACKS!! I bet you that you didn't say it so scream it out loud right now. I don't care where you are you have to scream it out loud this moment. If you don't you will turn into a eggplant. Remember, I KNOW WHERE YOU'RE BACKPACK LIVES!!
