Parineeta

Director  - Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Music Director - Shantanu Moitra

Parineeta - a timeless classic by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyaya's is being brought to the big screen again by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.  This classic love story was written in 1914.  Parineeta has been made twice, once with Moushmi Chatterjee in Bengali and the other with Meena Kumari in Hindi.  The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt & introduces new face Vidya Balan.

The music has been scored by Shantanu Moitra and the lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire.  The album opens with a very soft and soothing Piya Bole rendered by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal.  The song is slow number that grows on you as you listen to it.  The orchestration is soft and both singers have done an admirable job presenting the song.

The second number is a peppy Kasto Mazza again rendered by Sonu & Shreya.  This song is probably shot on a train as you can hear the train going in the background.  Soona Man Ka Aangan is another duet rendered by Sonu & Shreya.  This is a soft melancholic number with minimum orchestration.  The emphasis is more on vocals and Shreya and Sonu do a great job in bringing out the feeling of the song.

Kasisi Paheli Zindagani is jazz / western improvised melody sung by the inimitable Sunidhi Chauhan.  Sunidhi has a tremendous range and her talent comes through with flying colors in this number.  Raat Hamari Toh is rendered by Chitra & Swanand.  Chitra renders the song with effortless ease and is a very classical number.  Dhinak Dhinak Dha is a typical wedding song rendered with vigour by Rita Ganguly.  The final song is Hui Main Parineeta and is rendered by Sonu & Shreya.

Overall, the music of Parineeta is very different from the run of the mill stuff we hear these days.  The music is soft and mellow and is very pleasing to the ears.  A good buy if one is in the mood for such music.
