Springstep Presents First Gala Fundraiser "RADIANCE"

Press Release
04/21/2005

Springstep is stepping out in style this spring with its first gala fundraiser on Friday, April 29th.  Radiance, an evening of dance and celebration to honor founder, Deborah Hawkins, and to benefit Springstep will fill the multicultural arts center with dancing, music, and more from 7:00 pm until midnight.

Deborah Hawkins created Springstep out of her deep belief in the power of dance and the arts.  Since opening its doors in September 2003, the center has blossomed into a venue dedicated to exploring and interpreting dance traditions, celebrating world cultures, and building connections between people and communities.  Offering classes, performances, dances, special events and other programs in partnership with regional non-profit community and cultural organizations, Springstep is quickly proving to be an important part of the cultural revitalization of Medford Square.

Radiance will honor Hawkins’ generous contribution to the community in addition to showcasing the talents of some of the many organizations and individuals who have partnered with Springstep.  The evening will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres from around the world, a special Indian Classical Dance performance, a live auction, dessert and dancing all night long.

Attendees will be able to choose from several events happening throughout the building including: open dancing to The Special Edition Big Band, demonstrations and lessons by dance troupe It’s All Swing, Tango workshops and performances from Dance Caliente and the hosts of Springstep’s monthly Tango Lounge, dancing with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, and folk dancing with the hosts of Israeli Dance Plus!

It is fitting that Radiance will also coincide with International Dance Day, a UNESCO recognized occasion which celebrates dance as a fundamental part of human culture worldwide.  Springstep’s fundraiser is a perfect event for those inspired to rejoice in this day and support the preservation and creation of dance traditions.

Springstep was founded in 2000 as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and depends on individual donations and fundraisers to account for a significant portion of its funding.  This event will contribute immensely to sustaining Hawkins’ dream and ensuring the future of the organization.

Tickets are $50 each and, due to the generous donations of area merchants and individuals, nearly 100% of all ticket revenues will contribute directly to Springstep’s fundraising efforts.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.springstep.org or by calling 781.395-0402.
