03/10/2005

The alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) is gearing to meet this Spring in Washington, D.C. The Global IIT Alumni Conference, a biennial conference, is attracting participants from across the world. And, these individuals are not your every day alumni – these individuals have been referred to as the best and the brightest – “the fiercest competition in the world”. IIT2005: Beyond Technology is bringing together not only alumni and current students of the IITs, but also luminaries from industry and academia from around the world for three days of community, knowledge-sharing, thought leadership, and networking.

This year’s event, Chaired by Rajat Gupta, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Co, and Sudhakar Shenoy, Chairman and CEO, IMC and Chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council,  will feature prominent speakers such as keynote Jack Welch, former Chairman of GE; K.V. Kamath, CEO, ICICI Bank; Lord Kumar Bhattacharya, UK; Jerry Cohon, Pres. Of Carnegie Mellon University, Bob Brown, Provost of MIT; Professor C.K. Prahalad, University of Michigan; Larry Summers, President, Harvard University; Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande, Founder and Chairman, Sycamore Networks; Ramani Ayer, Chairman and CEO of the Hartford, Victor Menezes, Vice Chairman of Citigroup,  all the seven Directors of the IIT system and many others. They will address important topics facing us today such as globalization, borderless corporations, entrepreneurship, the IT economy and rural transformation, education and global investment opportunities, the Future Vision for the IITs and other compelling and relevant topics.

The IITs were established soon after India’s independence and have come to represent India’s vast potential for her human capital. IIT graduates can be found at the helm of companies ranging from the large manufacturing enterprises such as Daimler Benz, HP and CISCO to financial services companies such as Citigroup and Kotak Mahindra. It is estimated that IIT graduates are represented in 60% of all silicon valley start ups and may have created as many as 150,000 jobs in the USA. In India, large companies such as Tata, Infosys, HCL, Satyam, Datamatics and several Government secretariats are spearheaded by graduates from the IITs! This conference is about Technology without Borders. The Conference will launch the global transformation of our organization into a coalition that will impact IIT alumni and others now and far into the future.  Do not miss this important opportunity to be a part of a unique and wonderful program that will have an impact around the world.
