Ranjani Saigal
11/05/2026

A blessed and beautiful gathering took place on October 31, 2026, as Chinmaya Vanaprastha family came together to celebrate the spirit of Navratri and the divine power of Shakti. A day filled with devotion, togetherness, laughter, and delicious food!

The program opened with beautiful bhajans dedicated to Devi, setting a devotional tone for the gathering and invoking the spirit of Navaratri.

A special highlight was a sharing by Sashi Dwarkanath, who had just returned from a three-month visit to India. She spoke about the spiritual insights and experiences she had gained during her travels, particularly through her interactions with Swami Swaroopananda and Swami Tejomayananda. Her reflections offered the audience an opportunity to learn from her experiences and deepen their own spiritual perspectives.

Following a brief introduction to the mission and activities of the Vanaprastha Club by Priyanka, another volunteer Deepika shared an important new initiative developed by the team to provide food and support to seniors in need. The initiative reflects the club's commitment to extending its philosophy of seva beyond its regular gatherings and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The atmosphere turned lively with an enthusiastic game of Antakshari, which had the entire audience participating. Music, friendly competition, and shared memories brought everyone together.

One of the particularly engaging segments invited attendees to share personal thoughts and experiences from their lives. Bhargavi captivated the audience with her remarkable journey. She spoke about her training as a nurse at the Armed Forces Medical College in India, her subsequent career as a military nurse, and her service during the 1971 war. She later went on to become a Director at the prestigious Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. Her story was a testament to dedication, courage, and a lifetime of service.

Ranjani Saigal, popularly known as The Hindu Grandma, was also invited to share her life's journey. She applauded the Chinmaya Vanaprastha Club for creating a space where seniors could come together, share experiences, learn from one another, and remain actively engaged. Reflecting on her own journey, she remarked that when she left for her undergraduate studies at IIT Bombay, she could never have imagined that one day she would become a social media influencer. She spoke about how the Divine had guided her life at every step, often taking her in directions she could never have anticipated. Her story highlighted the importance of remaining open to life's possibilities and trusting the journey.

The gathering concluded with a delicious meal lovingly prepared and served by the volunteers. Their efforts added another dimension of warmth and hospitality to the afternoon.

The Navaratri-themed gathering was much more than a social get-together. It beautifully brought together the many dimensions of the Vanaprastha Club's mission—spiritual growth, intellectual engagement, friendship, sharing of life experiences, and service to the community. It was a wonderful reminder that the later chapters of life can be filled with learning, purpose, devotion, and meaningful contributions to society.
