Ranjani Saigal 11/05/2026 The spirit of Diwali came alive in Burlington, Massachusetts, as members and friends of Friends of Indian Seniors (FISCO) gathered for a joyful celebration filled with music, laughter, entertainment, and camaraderie. FISCO is a community organization dedicated to bringing Indian seniors together and creating opportunities for social interaction, learning, and friendship. With five centers across the region, FISCO provides a welcoming space where Indian seniors meet once a week to share lunch, enjoy conversations, and build meaningful connections. Bollywood singing, meditation, networking, and informational talks are central to its activities. An especially cherished feature is that members themselves take the lead in providing entertainment, making every gathering a celebration of shared talents and friendships. The Diwali festivities reflected this vibrant community spirit. The program opened on a devotional note with Ram Bhatt presenting a couple of beautiful bhajans, setting a warm and auspicious tone for the afternoon. The entertainment that followed brought plenty of nostalgia and laughter. One member delighted the audience with a lively rendition of the evergreen Bollywood hit Mera Joota Hai Japani. Adding a delightful theatrical twist, another member enacted the entire song, bringing its lyrics and spirit to life and earning enthusiastic appreciation from the audience. A special highlight of the celebration was the presence of Ranjani Saigal, popularly known as The Hindu Grandma, who was invited to address the gathering. She shared her journey of building a social media platform dedicated to making Hindu knowledge, traditions, and values accessible to younger generations. She also spoke about the importance of connecting with younger people and sharing cultural knowledge, traditions, and life experiences across generations. The celebration was rounded off with a delicious festive meal, giving everyone another opportunity to catch up, exchange stories, and enjoy one another's company. More than just a Diwali party, the gathering was a wonderful reflection of what FISCO stands for: friendship, cultural connection, active engagement, and a strong sense of community. With music in their hearts and smiles on their faces, the seniors celebrated not just Diwali, but also the joy of staying connected and celebrating life together.
