NESSP Groton Temple Celebrates Karwa Chauth

The New England Shirdi Sai Parivaar (NESSP) Groton temple radiated vibrant colors, devotion, and community spirit as women gathered to celebrate the auspicious festival of Karwa Chauth. Upholding a cherished annual tradition, the temple once again served as a spiritual sanctuary for the community, bringing families together to observe the sacred rituals.

The celebrations were held on October 28th and graciously led by community leader Ranjani Saigal, popularly and affectionately known on social media as "TheHinduGrandma."

As she does every year, Saigal led the prayers and captivated the gathering by eloquently explaining the profound spiritual and devotional significance behind the festival. She shared the timeless story of Satyavan and Savitri, emphasizing a powerful philosophical truth: when Truth (Satyavan) is united with Divine Energy (Savitri), the household becomes harmonious and beautiful. Furthermore, she highlighted the special spiritual significance hidden behind the dramatic elements of the popular "Veera" story.

Saigal noted that Karwa Chauth is fundamentally a celebration of womanhood and a prayer dedicated to the welfare of women, while also aligning with Sankatahara Chathurthi, where men are likewise encouraged to fast.

Dressed in stunning traditional finery, women filled the temple halls with heartfelt prayers and glowing diyas. In a poignant moment during the rituals, as the prayer plates (thalis) were passed around in a circle, every woman prayed not only for her own family's welfare but also specifically for the health, happiness, and well-being of all present whose plate she held in her hands.

The annual event reflects NESSP Groton’s unwavering commitment to fostering cultural heritage and community bonding. To honor her enduring leadership and dedication to transmitting these rich Vedic traditions to the community year after year, temple organizers proudly presented Ranjani Saigal with a special token of appreciation during the ceremonies.
