Priyanka Mishra 10/08/2026 A Rainy Day Couldn’t Stop the Joy: Chinmaya's Vanaprastha Program Begins Priyanka Mishra Hari Om! On September 26, 2026, despite rain and storm predictions, Chinmaya Mission Boston’s new Vanaprastha Program welcomed an almost full house for its inaugural gathering. What began as a sankalpa by our Spiritual Leader, Dr. Shashi Dwarakanath Ji, to create a meaningful and vibrant community for senior participants came alive with tremendous warmth, enthusiasm, and joy. The gathering brought senior participants together for an afternoon of connection, spirituality, music, games, delicious homemade food, and heartfelt conversations. Thoughtful hospitality and careful planning ensured that every senior participant felt welcomed and engaged. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Antakshari, which quickly became a superhit! Familiar songs, friendly competition, laughter, and enthusiastic participation filled the room. The energy was contagious and quickly filled the hall with fun, friendship, and celebration. “The response reaffirmed what we had hoped to create: a place where our senior participants feel welcomed, valued, connected, and excited to come back,” shared the Vanaprastha organizing team. “This is only the beginning.” The program is envisioned as much more than a monthly gathering. Its mission is to help senior participants remain healthy, connected, independent, purposeful, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilled, while creating opportunities for them to share their knowledge, experiences, talents, and wisdom. Future plans include spiritual and cultural programs, wellness and educational sessions, interest groups, music and games, community service, intergenerational activities, home visits and check-ins, transportation and meal support, and opportunities for senior participants to share their life stories and expertise. The overwhelming response to the inaugural event confirmed the strong desire among senior participants for meaningful connection and community. One piece of written feedback captured the sentiment beautifully: “This was a great initiative and well-conducted program. Everyone had so much fun, and it was great connecting with old friends and making new ones. Looking forward to the next one.” The Vanaprastha team now invites the wider community to be part of this journey. Seniors who would like to participate, family members who want to connect their loved ones with the program, and volunteers who would like to contribute their time, talents, or resources are all welcome. Together, we can build a community where our senior participants are not simply cared for, but celebrated for the wisdom, experience, and joy they bring to all of us. The first chapter has been written. Now, we invite everyone to help write the chapters ahead. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
