Press Release 09/29/2026 From Tribal Leader to Legend: “Neelkanth: The Rise of Shiva” Brings an Epic Journey to the Andover Stage on October 3 That question lies at the heart of “Neelkanth: The Rise of Shiva,” an ambitious new English-language stage production premiering Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the J. Everett Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School. Inspired by Amish Tripathi’s bestselling Shiva Trilogy, Neelkanth brings together more than 50 performers and nearly 40 production volunteers and team members for a two-hour theatrical experience combining dance, music, drama, visual storytelling and large-scale stage sequences. Rather than presenting Shiva simply as a divine figure, Neelkanth explores the journey of a man who begins as a tribal leader and is transformed through courage, sacrifice, responsibility, love, loss and the choices he makes. At its core, the production asks what makes a person worthy of becoming a legend—and whether greatness is something inherited or something created through one's actions. The production is being written, directed, choreographed and produced by Dr. Sonal Mazumder, Founder of Dancilla YogaFusion. What began as an ambitious creative idea has grown into a large community undertaking involving performers and volunteers from different generations and backgrounds. The production brings together dance artists, actors, musicians, backstage volunteers, technical teams, costume and makeup teams, and production crews, all contributing to a shared theatrical vision. “Neelkanth is ultimately a story about transformation,” says Dr. Mazumder. “It is about an ordinary man who is tested by extraordinary circumstances and whose choices, sacrifices and responsibilities shape the person he becomes. That idea is universal, and we wanted to bring that journey to the stage in a way that audiences could experience— not simply watch.” The production moves through battles, relationships, loss, loyalty, sacrifice and transformation, using a combination of theatrical storytelling and choreographed sequences. The stage world draws inspiration from ancient Indian landscapes, tribal traditions and kingdoms while incorporating imaginative elements of science, engineering and invention. The result is a theatrical universe that seeks to make a familiar epic feel immersive, contemporary and accessible to an English-speaking audience. The production features approximately 12 major dance sequences, dramatic scenes, elaborate visual elements and ensemble performances designed specifically for the Collins Center stage. For the artists involved, the production represents more than a performance. It is the culmination of months of rehearsals, choreography, technical preparation and volunteer work. Participants have come together from across the region, giving their time and talent to create a production that would typically require the infrastructure of a much larger professional organization. The show also reflects the diversity of the Massachusetts community, bringing together people of different ages and experiences around a shared love of storytelling, music and performance. The production will welcome Massachusetts State Auditor Diana DiZoglio as Chief Guest. The event is presented as a community theatrical experience and is expected to bring together families, artists, community members and audiences from across the Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley region. 4:00 PM — show begins promptly Doors open at 3:00 PM Andover High School, Andover, MA The performance runs approximately two hours. Tickets are available through the event ticketing platform, with Silver, Gold and Platinum seating options available while seats remain. Written and directed by Dr. Mazumder, the production translates the epic journey of Shiva into an original English- language stage experience through dance, drama, music and visual storytelling. The production follows the extraordinary journey of a man who rises from a tribal leader to a figure destined for something far greater—driven not by birth or prophecy, but by karma, courage, sacrifice, love and responsibility. Rather than simply retelling the source material, Dr. Mazumder’s adaptation interprets its central themes for the stage, creating an immersive theatrical experience that explores transformation, leadership, loyalty, loss and the choices that shape an individual’s destiny.
