Press Release 08/19/2026 IAGB India Day 2026 Draws Record Attendance and Celebrates India’s 80th Independence Day with Unprecedented Community Participation The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB), one of New England’s oldest and largest Indian-American civic organizations, proudly announces the tremendous success of its India Day 2026 celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day. This year’s programming brought together thousands across Greater Boston through flag-raising ceremonies, cultural showcases, youth recognition, sports, and community partnerships. The centerpiece event, India Day 2026 – “Colors of India”, held on August 15 at NARA Park Amphitheater in Acton, drew an extraordinary turnout of more than 4,000 attendees, one of the strongest in recent years. The venue change proved to be a major success, with excellent parking convenience and improved logistics significantly enhancing the overall experience for families, performers, and partner organizations. IAGB welcomed Chief Guest Raghuram S., Consul General of India in Boston, and Guest of Honor Anu Chitrapu, Senior Vice President & Technology Executive at Bank of America, both of whom addressed attendees during the formal segment. Their participation underscored the cultural significance of India Day and the enduring civic ties between India and the United States. This year’s celebration also received formal recognition from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Governor Maura T. Healey issued a proclamation designating August 15, 2026, as India Day, honoring India’s independence and the contributions of the Indian diaspora. Additionally, the Massachusetts State Senate, through Senator Jamie Eldridge, issued a citation recognizing IAGB and the Indian-American community for their contributions to the Greater Boston region. More than 200+ performers took the stage, presenting a vibrant array of dance, music, and cultural arts. Over 40 New England organizations participated, showcasing the strength and unity of the regional Indian-American community. In reflecting on the event’s success, IAGB President Nilesh Agrawal said: “India Day 2026 was one of our strongest community turnouts in recent years. Seeing more than 4,000 people come together to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day was truly inspiring. The energy, the performances, the unity — it all reflects the strength of our community and the dedication of our volunteers and partners.” The festival featured a wide range of attractions, including a powerful 35,000‑watt sound system that elevated every performance, Kahoot trivia, interactive games, and raffle drawings that kept audiences engaged throughout the afternoon. A lively marketplace showcased community favorites, with Apna Bazar Farmers Market serving as the Grand Sponsor and Craft Indian Kitchen as the official food partner. The day concluded with a dynamic DJ finale by Xtreme Productions and a flash mob led by Swasti Bhargava. Earlier that morning, IAGB hosted its first-ever Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament at NARA Park and Macpherson Field. Teams competed for championship honors, with awards for Champion, Runner-Up, Best Batter, and Best Bowler. All participants received commemorative T-shirts, and the tournament was widely praised as an exciting new addition to India Day programming. During the formal segment, IAGB presented its 2026 Senior Scholarship Awards, supported by the Kapasi Family Foundation. Two graduating high school seniors were recognized with $500 scholarships for essays on the theme “Colors of India – Stories That Inspire.” Deepak Garg, Vice President of IAGB, highlighted the impact of the new venue: “The move to NARA Park proved to be a major success. The improved logistics and parking convenience made a noticeable difference for attendees. We are grateful to all partner organizations and performers who helped make this celebration memorable.” Asha Thotangare, Secretary of IAGB, noted the community engagement: “The cultural performances, interactive games, and family activities brought joy to every age group. It was heartwarming to see children, youth, and adults participate together — truly showcasing the ‘Colors of India.’” The event’s scale and execution were supported by strong planning and partnerships. Vijay Ejenkar, Treasurer of IAGB, added: “We are proud of the scale and quality of this year’s event. From the 35,000‑watt sound system to the cricket tournament and community booths, every element was thoughtfully planned. The support from our sponsors, including Apna Bazar Farmers Market and Craft Indian Kitchen, played a key role in this success.” The month-long celebration also included official flag-raising ceremonies across Westford, Burlington, Acton, Sharon, and Andover, bringing together elected officials, community leaders, and residents in recognition of India’s Independence Day and shared democratic values. Founded in 1962, IAGB continues its six-decade legacy of promoting Indian culture, strengthening community engagement, and fostering U.S.–India relations through cultural, educational, and civic initiatives.
