ISW India Day 2026: “Udaan – The Flight of Peace”

The India Society of Worcester (ISW) is excited to welcome families and communities from across New England to India Day 2026, its premier annual celebration commemorating India's 79th Independence Day while recognizing 63 years of dedicated service to the community. As one of the region's largest cultural gatherings, the event showcases India's rich traditions, vibrant heritage, and enduring values of unity, diversity, and inclusion. Best of all, the celebration is FREE and open to everyone.

Over the years, India Day has grown into a cherished tradition that brings together thousands of people from diverse backgrounds. This year's celebration carries added significance with the attendance of
Honorable Consul General Mr. S. Raghuram, who assumed office as the First Consul General of India in Boston in September 2025, making the occasion even more memorable.

Leading this year's celebration are ISW President Prof. Jagan Srinivasan, Vice President Balki Chandrakasan, Secretary and India Day Chair Kamlesh Khilnani, and Co-chair Suchitra Shinde, who warmly invite the entire community to join in celebrating India's freedom, cultural legacy, and vibrant diversity.

The 2026 celebration embraces the inspiring theme "Udaan: The Flight of Peace," envisioned by the ISW Cultural Committee under the leadership of Chair Smita Manjrekar and Co-chair Komal Tanna. More than just a theme, Udaan symbolizes hope, resilience, and collective progress. It reflects a future where peace guides our actions, our cultural roots give us strength, and our shared aspirations empower every generation to rise together.

For countless volunteers, performers, sponsors, and attendees, India Day is more than an event—it's a celebration of belonging. It is a place where lifelong friendships are formed, cultures are shared, traditions are passed on to younger generations, and the community comes together to create lasting memories.

Visitors can look forward to a full day of entertainment and cultural experiences featuring spectacular dance and music performances, authentic regional cuisine from Craft Indian Kitchen (Acton) and Peppers (Northborough), colorful arts and crafts exhibits, and a bustling marketplace offering traditional clothing, jewelry, handcrafted items, and unique cultural products. The festivities will also include engaging youth activities, interactive community programs, and entertainment for all ages.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Muthu Rajasekaran, ISW Assistant Treasurer, shared: "For me, India Day is where heritage meets home. It's a reminder that while we celebrate our Indian roots, we're also strengthening the community we proudly call home here in New England. If you've never witnessed India Day, prepare to be surprised. You'll discover incredible performances, amazing food, welcoming people, and an experience that stays with you long after the event ends"

ISW gratefully acknowledges the generous support of its sponsors—eClinicalWorks, UNIBANK, APNA BAZAR, AARP, Webster Five, CENTRAL ONE, Country Bank, and Beacon Bank. Their continued partnership plays an essential role in preserving cultural traditions, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring that India Day remains one of New England's most anticipated cultural celebrations.
