Here’s a simple, cooling Cucumber Raita—perfect for hot summer days and a great side dish for any meal. It is perfect for summer because it is naturally cooling (yogurt + cucumber), keeps you hydrated, light, fresh, and easy to digest.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick chilled yogurt (curd)
  • 1 medium cucumber, grated or finely chopped
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of black salt (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 4–5 mint leaves, chopped (optional but refreshing)
  • A pinch of black pepper (optional)

Preparation

Step 1: Prep cucumber

  • Grate the cucumber and lightly squeeze out excess water (optional, if too watery).

Step 2: Whisk yogurt

  • In a bowl, whisk the chilled yogurt until smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Mix

  • Add cucumber to the yogurt.
  • Mix in salt, roasted cumin powder, and black salt.

Step 4: Garnish

  • Add coriander and mint leaves.
  • Sprinkle a little cumin powder or black pepper on top.

Serve

  • Chill for 10–15 minutes before serving
  • Serve alongside rice, pulao, biryani, or rotis

Tips:

For extra flavor, add a tiny pinch of chaat masala or finely chopped green chili if you like mild heat.
