Our Voice And Yours

Lokvani wishes all its readers a very Happy Father's Day on Sunday June 21st.

Why This Rule of Third Sunday of June Was Chosen
  • Scheduling Practicality: When the holiday was first celebrated in 1910, the date originally proposed was June 5 (the founder's father's birthday). It was pushed back to the third Sunday simply to give local pastors more time to prepare their sermons.

  • Presidential Enactment: In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation establishing the third Sunday in June to celebrate fathers, a decree made official law in 1972 by President Richard Nixon
Global Variations
While the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and many other countries celebrate on the third Sunday of June, other regions celebrate on completely different dates based on local history and culture.
