Press Release 06/06/2026 Global Peace Secretariat Commemorates America 250 Global Peace Secretariat commemorates America's 250th Anniversary with an exclusive rendition of "America The Beautiful" by prominent flutist Ruth Levitsky. See - https://youtu.be/p6bKeiaNAt8 "America The Beautiful" was written by poet Katharine Lee Bates, who was born in Falmouth MA, but spent the majority of her academic and personal life in the Boston area. She attended Wellesley College, where she later taught as an English literature professor from 1885 to 1925. A statement by Sandy Bates, President & Genealogist of the Bates Association to Global Peace Secretariat: " Katharine Lee Bates is a distant cousin of mine. Our Common Ancestor is Clement Bate who came from England to Hingham Mass. Later an s was added to the Bate name then becoming Bates. In 1893 Katharine took a trip to Pikes Peak CO. an was so inspired by the view, that she wrote the first version of "America The Beautiful". Katharine was a big supporter and contributor of poems and writings to The Bates Association. The Association was formed in 1907, made up of Bates all over the US. " "As a long time resident of Quincy MA, birthplace of Founding Father John Adams, 1st US Vice President and 2nd President and 6th US President his son John Quincy Adams , how amazing that Miss Bates of Massachusetts wrote this incredible poem that almost became America's National Anthem. As an American & MA resident, both for over 25 years, what an honor and privilege being part of history of the world's oldest democracy , as we celebrate America's & MA's 250th Anniversaries and Quincy's 400th Anniversary (2025) since its founding" ....
