As heatwaves intensify, Aam Panna—a tangy drink made from raw mango—continues to be a time-tested remedy for hydration and heat exhaustion. Rich in vitamin C, potassium, and natural electrolytes, this drink helps restore fluids and maintain body temperature during extreme summer conditions.

Raw mango provides vitamin C and antioxidants, boosting immunity and protecting tissues from heat stress. The addition of salt and cumin helps replenish sodium lost through sweating and aids digestion. Mango pulp offers potassium, which supports electrolyte balance and prevents dehydration. Together, these components make Aam Panna a natural oral rehydration beverage, especially useful in hot climates.

  • Text Box:Use jaggery instead of refined sugar for better mineral content
  • Keep salt moderate (important for hypertension patients)
  • Best consumed mid-day or afternoon during peak heat

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • Raw green mangoes – 2 medium (approx. 250–300 g)
  • Water – 3–4 cups
  • Jaggery or sugar – 3–4 tablespoons (adjust to taste)
  • Black salt (kala Namak) – ½ teaspoon
  • Roasted cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh mint leaves – 10–12 (optional but recommended)
  • Regular salt – a pinch
  • Ice cubes – as required (Beter, if you skip them)

Preparation Method

Step 1: Cook the Mangoes

  • Wash the raw mangoes thoroughly. Boil or pressure-cook until soft (2–3 whistles). Alternatively, roast over flame for a smoky, traditional flavor.

Step 2: Extract the Pulp

  • Cool, peel, and squeeze out the pulp. Discard the seed and fibers.

Step 3: Blend the Base

  • Add pulp to a blender. Mix jaggery/sugar, mint leaves, cumin powder, black salt, and regular salt. Blend into a smooth concentrate.

Step 4: Dilute and Serve

  • Add cold (Earthen Pot) water to dilute the concentrate (as per taste). Adjust salt/sweetness. Serve chilled with ice (Normal temperature is better).

Health Benefits in Summer

  • Prevents dehydration and heat exhaustion, Restores electrolyte balance
  • Improves digestion (thanks to cumin & fiber), Provides quick natural energy
  • Supports immune function (vitamin C rich)
