A Million Reasons To Celebrate

Ranjani Saigal
05/08/2026

 It was a night where philanthropy met celebration. On Sunday, May 3, the Boston Marriott Burlington transformed into a hub of community spirit as nearly 400 civic leaders, entrepreneurs, and dedicated supporters gathered for the annual Akshaya Patra Foundation USA Boston Gala.

Driven by a shared mission to keep children in school through the power of a nutritious meal, the Boston community opened its heart—and its wallets—raising an incredible $1 million for the cause.

An Evening of Inspiration and Insight

The gala began on a deeply grounding note with a beautiful opening prayer led by Ranjani Saigal, a Hindu Priest, setting a unified and reflective tone for the evening.  After an introduction to the wonderful work of Akshaya Patra, attendees were treated to an intimate and inspiring fireside chat between Guest of Honor Vineeta Gupta and Desh Deshpande, Chairman Emeritus of the Foundation. Gupta’s personal story of resilience and her profound reflections on leadership captivated the audience. Vineeta Gupta and her husband Naren Gupta were a power couple where each led a public traded company.  In a very candid interview she described her entrepreneurial journey and her personal life. She described her struggles and how with sheer grit and perseverance she took her company to IPO level. Vineeta Gupta’s book “A Woman In Deed” chronicles this tale.

Dancing to 'Jai Ho' and Celebrating Youth

While the mission is a serious one, the gala proved that changing the world can be incredibly joyful. The vibrant cultural atmosphere was further enriched by a captivating musical performance from Shirish Nimgaonkar.The room’s energy skyrocketed when Neena Grover took the stage to introduce the Foundation’s dedicated Youth Leaders. Sparking a wave of spontaneous celebration, Grover had the entire ballroom on their feet, dancing together to the triumphant beats of "Jai Ho”

The Power of Community

Organizers praised the continued, year-over-year growth of the gala, emphasizing how vital local partnerships and volunteer leadership are to expanding the Foundation's impact. A special spotlight was placed on the Boston Chapter leadership team, whose tireless efforts made the $1 million milestone possible:

* Dr. Manju Sheth
* Rajeev Jain
* Samantha Ganglani
* Yoshika Sherring
* Ajita Bhat
* Nidhi Singhal

The Global Impact
Every dollar raised at the Boston Gala ripples outward to support one of the largest NGO-run school meal programs on the planet. Operating through a massive network of centralized kitchens, the Akshaya Patra Foundation serves hot, nutritious mid-day meals to more than 2.35 million children across 24,000+ government schools in India every single day. With over 5 billion meals served globally to date, the Foundation continues to prove that a simple meal is often the key to unlocking a child's education and future.
