On April 29th, the Hindu Temple of New Hampshire was filled with devotion and musical brilliance as it hosted a captivating Harikatha performance titled "Kamakshi and the Sage of Kanchi." The traditional storytelling event featured the highly acclaimed Harikatha exponent, Smt. U. E. Sindhuja, and was organized under the joint auspices of Aksayam and Vishnupadam.
Smt. Sindhuja masterfully wove together music, philosophy, and narration to depict the divine and profound connection between Goddess Kamakshi, the presiding deity of Kanchipuram, and Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Swamigal, affectionately and universally revered as the Sage of Kanchi (Maha Periyava). Drawing from her rich repertoire—which she has successfully presented to audiences across various platforms—Smt. Sindhuja highlighted the Sage’s ascetic lifestyle, his unwavering dedication to Sanatana Dharma, and his boundless compassion. The performance beautifully illustrated the Sage's profound bhakti (devotion) and brought to life inspiring anecdotes of his grace that continue to guide devotees today.
The captivating vocal storytelling by Smt. Sindhuja was brilliantly supported by her talented accompanists, with Sri Mahalingam on the Mridangam and Srikanth on the Violin. Together, the artists created an immersive and spiritually uplifting atmosphere for all attendees. The evening’s program was seamlessly guided by Balaji, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.
This special event was proudly presented by two dedicated organizations:
* Akshyam, which actively hosts concerts and cultural events to promote, preserve, and celebrate Indian culture and classical arts within the community.
* Vishnupadam, an organization deeply committed to serving the community by creating a dedicated, dignified, and comfortable space where "Anteshti" (last rites) rituals can be performed with the utmost respect and cultural adherence.
The community turned out in wonderful numbers to support the event, reflecting a deep appreciation for the rich traditions of Harikatha and the enduring legacy of the Sage of Kanchi.
