ISW Brings Holi Celebration to Boston with Music, Dance, and Community Spirit

Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace came alive with color, rhythm, and community spirit as the India Society of Worcester (ISW) hosted its annual Holi Festival of Colors. Despite chilly temperatures, the event drew a strong crowd, with families, performers, and visitors gathering to celebrate one of India’s most joyful festivals.

Holi, often called the festival of colors, marks the arrival of spring and celebrates joy, togetherness, and renewal. ISW’s Boston celebration reflected these elements, combining live percussion, dance performances, and the much-anticipated color play.

The ISW Symphony Dhol-Tasha-Lezim team led the festivities, setting the tone with powerful drum beats that echoed through the historic marketplace. The performance brought together experienced members and several first-time performers, highlighting both continuity and growth within the group. This event also marked a milestone for the team, completing 40 public performances in under five years.

Alongside the percussion, a series of choreographed dance performances added variety to the program. From children’s group performances to classical Kathak and traditional Lavani, the stage reflected a wide range of talent across age groups. Youth performers and first-time participants brought fresh energy, while seasoned performers added depth to the program.

Reflecting on the experience, volunteer Prasanna Pawar said, “What an incredible Holi celebration, especially in such cold weather. Despite the cold, so many people gathered in large numbers, and many stayed from start to finish. It was truly electrifying.”

Aishwarya Mungarwadi added, “The event was mesmerizing and very well planned. I enjoyed every bit of the Dhol and the performances, and there are so many memories to cherish.”

Highlighting the team’s continued growth, Vishakha Khamankar noted, “Another successful event for the group. The bar gets higher every time, and the community is growing stronger and larger. It’s an inspiring team of dedicated and talented members. Thank you to everyone for the support and the opportunity to be part of this event.”

General Secretary Kamlesh Khilnani introduced ISW to the audience, outlining the organization’s mission and its role in promoting Indian culture and community engagement across New England.

Jessy Haggard from Faneuil Hall Marketplace also addressed the audience and acknowledged the partnership with ISW - “The drums, the dances, and the colors are an amazing representation of Holi. I had a great time watching all of you and hope to see you again next year.”

Throughout the event, the crowd remained engaged, enjoying both the performances and the color play. Many attendees stayed for the full program, reflecting strong community interest and participation.

The event was supported by more than 50 volunteers and performers contributing across percussion, dance, music, and coordination, enabling smooth execution.

Founded in 1963, the India Society of Worcester is one of New England’s leading Indian cultural organizations. Entirely volunteer-run, ISW provides a platform for community members of all ages to connect, celebrate, and showcase their talents. Through events like Holi and more, ISW continues to strengthen cultural ties and bring communities together across Massachusetts.
