Press Release 09/21/2025 A Future For Every Child (AFEC), a nonprofit organization, invites you to an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and purpose. World-jazz ensemble Natraj joins acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer Jayshree Bala Rajamani to bring centuries-old Ragamala paintings from Mughal India to life through a powerful multimedia performance, Ragamala Alive! Blending contemporary jazz with influences from India and Africa, the music draws on Indian ragas and African rhythms, reimagined in a jazz style. Miniature artworks from the Mughal era, paired with Bharatanatyam poses, illustrate the rich moods and stories of the ragas. Since its debut at the TriNethra Festival in 2019, Ragamala Paintings Alive has received rave reviews: “’Ragamala Paintings Alive!’… adventurous… captivated the audience… distinctive, engaging rhythms… stellar… upbeat… technical and expressive excellence… awe-striking… transported [the audience]… into the setting… whether it be a forest, lake, chariot, or palace.” “Ragamala Paintings Alive!... Deeply poetic, and unfolds with much emotion… Rich and melodic… Packed with timeless jazz flavor…Enlightening, accessible and artistic via its Indian classical music core.” This special evening supports A Future For Every Child (AFEC), a nonprofit dedicated to preparing disadvantaged youth in India who must leave care homes (orphanages) at age 18 to build independent and successful futures. Every year, more than 50,000 young people in India face this transition with little support and few opportunities — AFEC helps change that.
