Poem: Independence Day

Arundhati Sarkhel
08/14/2025

I have enjoyed freedom all my life
Sometimes I proudly say
I came from a Democratic country
I grew up with a female Prime Minister
I was mesmerized by her beauty, Strength, and simplicity
I saw so many strong women
Managing home and the outside world with grace
Helping the unfortunate one smile and kindness
Now I am living in another Democratic country
I am struck by individual freedom
And you can do anything at any age
For my dream, I always wanted to
Publishing and editing my book
And do a one-woman show
After practicing my art for fifty years
Finally, I got the courage and freedom
To do it my way
That's Independence Day to me
