Madhumati Tyagi and Geetha Patil 08/14/2025 Sweet Aval or Sweet Poha is a no cook snack made using flattened rice flakes with jaggery, ghee, coconut, and cardamom powder. This is the most popular sweet offering made for Gokul Ashtami or Krishna Jayanthi. Aval Nanachathu is a Malayalam word which means poha soaked. In Tamil Nadu it is called sweet aval, and in North India it is called Sweet Poha. Though called by different names in different locations the basic recipes remain the same. Ingredients · Aval – 1 cup thick or thin poha · Jaggery -1/2 cup powdered jaggery · Coconut – ½ cup freshly grated coconut · Ghee – 1 table spoon fresh puree ghee · Cardamom powder -1/4 tea spoon Cardamom powder How to make Sweet Aval Step by Step 1.First add 1 cup poha to water. 2.Rinse well a couple of times until water is clear and drain water. (For thin poha you do not have to soak. If you use thick poha then soak for 2 minutes or until poha turns soft then drain water.) 3.Drain water completely. 4.Add it to a mixing bowl. 5.Add ⅓ cup powdered jaggery. 6.Add ½ cup grated coconut along with 1 tablespoon ghee and ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder. 7.Mix it well. 8.Sweet poha or Sweet aval is ready. 9.Sprinkle fresh grated coconut and serve it immediately and enjoy!!
