Top 12 Indian-origin billionaires in US 2025: India surpasses Israel as prime country of origin of foreign-born American billionaires

India has overtaken Israel as the leading country of origin for foreign-born billionaires in the US, with Indian-origin individuals on Forbes' 2025 list. Jay Chaudhry (Zscaler) leads this group, which also includes tech giants Sundar Pichai (Alphabet) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft), highlighting a significant rise in self-made wealth in technology and finance.

With a combined net-worth of $16.1 trillion, there are now around 3,000 billionaires in the world as of 2025 across 78 countries. Around one-third of these billionaires reside in the United States of America. Out of them, 14 per cent were not born in the USA and hold a cumulative wealth of $1.3 trillion.

According to Forbes, about 93 per cent of these foreign-born billionaires have built their fortune on their own, mainly in two sectors – technology (53 billionaires) and finance (28 billionaires).

 

In addition, three of the world’s top ten billionaires in the USA are foreign-born born namely Elon Musk (originally from South Africa), Google cofounder Sergey Brin (Russia) and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (Taiwan).

Indian-origin entrepreneurs saw a rise as a major player in the US economy. The Indian-origin billionaires has more than doubled from five in 2022 to 12 in 2025. India has become the country of origin for the highest number of foreign-born billionaires in the United States surpassing Israel in this category, according to the latest Forbes list.
