Sangam Celebrates Diwali

Sangam, the Indian Students Association at MIT, celebrated  Diwali Nite 2004 at Walker Memorial Auditorium, MIT, Cambridge on November 5th.   Folks dressed in ethnic Indian dresses amplify the beauty of the  captivatingly decorated  Walker Audiorium.  The program featured excellent Indian music, dance culture and ambience.  

The program began with delicious three course mouth watering dinner.  This followed by a variety of cultural performances recreating home atmosphere at MIT.  Programs included traditional Indian dances, movies songs, fusion of east and west and contemporary dances.  Funny skits and extempore comedy by the emcees made the program very enjoyable.  


 
The program included following performances;  ‘Raag Bhupali’ performed by Chinton Vaishav and Saikat Guha; ‘Pukarta Chala hun main’ by Chitradeep; ‘Medley’ by Pushkar and Nihar; ‘Kehta hai  Mera Dil Piya’  performed by  Aarthi Chandrasekhar and accompanied by Dilesh Haria on Tabla and Saikat Guha on Keyboad; 'Garbha-Dandiya' choreographed by Hetal Vaishnav and performed by Sakina Saif, Krithika Sridharan, Padmashree Ramachandran, Hetal Vaishnav, Charuleka Varadharajan and Anu Villapallam; 'Tarana' performed by Ashish Nimgaonkar accompanied by Chintan Vaishnav on Tabla, Ashish Kapoor on Acoustic Guitar, Ishan Capila on Base Guitar and Shekhar Gothoskar on Keyboard.

 

‘Water’ a piece expressing different cultures was a fusion between classical Indian Dance and Ballet.  The performance depicted the stark stylistic and visual differences between the two dance forms. It was performed by Sejal Patel, Payal Kadakia, Lila Gollogly, Mandelyn Ho.

 

‘Mahabharat  Institute of Technology’ a creation at MIT gave a modern look at celebrated Indian Epic. ‘2004- A Love Story’ , a musical romantic comedy was well received. The program concluded by the ever popular MIT Bhangra.

 

Everybody in the auditorium got involved and enjoyed the show.  Audience could notice the innovation expected of MIT students in the show.
