Ramamoorthy Sankariah

11/10/1939-1/24/2025

Ramamoorthy Sankariah passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at Westford House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Westford, Massachusetts. Ramamoorthy was born on November 10, 1939, in a small village in Tamil Nadu, India, to Sri. V. Sankariah and his beloved mother, Smt. Lakshmi. He was the fifth of seven children.

The first college graduate in his family, Ramamoorthy earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry with first-class honors from St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, India. Soon after his graduation, Ramamoorthy joined the Dept of Agriculture, State Govt. of Tamil Nadu and retired as the Joint Director of Agriculture in 1997.

In May 1963, Ramamoorthy married Bhagavathy, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in mutual respect and love. Together, they raised their daughter, Jeyanthi, instilling in her a deep appreciation for education, arts, culture and service. After retiring, Ramamoorthy relocated to the United States with his wife to spend cherished time with their family, playing an active role in raising their grandson, Pranav.

Ramamoorthy’s passions extended far beyond his family. He was captivated by music, particularly old Tamil songs and Carnatic ragas, with Mohanam being his favorite. Although not formally trained, he had a rare gift for identifying ragas through film music and often shared his love of melody through Sai Bhajans and devotional songs.

Over the years, he became known for his talents as a writer and translator in Tamil, skillfully weaving lighthearted humor into spiritual reflections. Among his many contributions, Ramamoorthy translated works by authors like Sri M.K. Angajan, and wrote about the sacred 108 Divya Deshams, sharing his insights with warmth and wit.

His disciplined spiritual practice was central to his life, including daily prayers and rituals tied to meaningful times like 1:11, 2:22, and 3:33. These habits reflected his deep mindfulness and commitment to faith. An active member of his local Sai Center, Ramamoorthy was always eager to serve God in any way possible. Those who knew Ramamoorthy will remember his disciplined and caring nature, his humor, and his ability to inspire others through his passion for learning, music, and spirituality. He enthusiastically wrote coverage articles of performances and arangetrams of students of Natyanjali, his daughter’s dance school.

Ramamoorthy is survived by his wife, Bhagavathy; daughter, Jeyanthi; son-in-law, Kanth; grandson, Pranav; and his youngest brother, Ramakrishna. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 30, followed by a Celebration of Life on February 2, 2025. Ramamoorthy Sankariah’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. A man of great intellect, a caring heart, and an unshakable commitment to family, faith, and service, he leaves behind a life filled with love and purpose that will inspire generations to come.
