The United India Association(UIA)  celebrated Women’s International Day on May 9, 2024 at Bollywood Grill in Andover, MA. Under the leadership of Aanch Jain and Dr. Neela Gandhi, the team organized the first recognition event where they honored women leaders in the community.

After a meet-n-greet session, where nearly a 100 women gathered to cheer and inspire each other, Dr. Neela Gandhi opened the event with some brief remarks. Aanch Jain had unfortunately lost her voice and had Geeta Virmani the EMCEE for the evening speak on her behalf. Both applauded the tremendous work done by the women they were honoring.

Kay Khan, the Rep from Newton was the guest of honor for the evening. She urged women to take an active role in politics and encouraged them to run for office. She urged everyone to know their rep and work with their rep. The list of honorees included a young high schooler from Lexington who is winning weight lifting competitions. The honorees received a certificate of appreciation  both from United India Association and from the office of Senator Elizabeth Warren for their accomplishments. It was my honor also to get recognized.

Following the recognition, there were dances by Pooja Tiwari and Lekha who presented some Bollywood numbers. The floor was then opened to the audience.

It was very nice of the organizers to recognize the community work being done by many. We look forward to the event next year.
