Leader Bank hosted a celebration of International Women’s Day with the release of the Women Who Win book :Real Stories, Real Women produced by Dr. Manju Sheth, Dr. Deepa Jhaveri and Shaleen Sheth on March 10th at the St. Regis. The event featured a fireside chat hosted by Priscilla.H.Douglass.

After introductory remarks by Sushil Tuli who shared the commitment of Leader Bank to support and promote women, Jaishree and Desh Deshpande, the chief guests of the evening did the official release of the book. The book, featuring stories of several inspirational women, was a compilation of the interviews done by the Women Who Win group that has setup a networking platform for women. Jaishree Deshpande spoke about how she was inspired by her own mother and mother-in-law who were one of the few women who had college degrees back in the 1940s. Both applauded the Women Who Win team for their terrific work.

Dr. Manju Sheth started with an introduction where she described her own journey of 15 years. She described how she took her dream to be a journalist and worked on several platforms to showcase her journalistic talents. This she did while continuing to work as a doctor in the medical field. “I knew that I had done well when Desh called me after an interview on Chai with Manju and said not bad for a doctor”.

Priscilla Douglas is an executive coach, author, speaker and Board Chair of the Boston Public Library moderated the fireside chat with the Women Who Win team. She applauded the breadth of experiences she saw amongst the women chosen to be featured in the book. When asked about the name for the group, Shaleen Sheth said it was in the spirit of cheering women on. Shaleen was the wind beneath the wings to bring modern technology and social media ideas to grow the platform. Dr. Jhaveri spoke about the use of the platform as a source for philanthropic activity. “As a podiatrist, I am passionate about feet and worked on getting shoes for children in India who would never otherwise have had the ability to do so”

Many of the women featured in the book attended the event. For me, it was an honor to be featured for I could share my work at Ekal Vidyalaya. It was wonderful to meet several of the attendees, each of whose story was truly inspirational. Alka Kotak presented the vote of thanks and treated the attendees to a meal that she herself had prepared. The event was inspiring and we look forward to the sequel to this book.
