Global Peace Secretariat marks 1 Year Anniversary

Global Peace Secretariat, a newly launched initiative in US by Founder & Secretary General Miss Kumu Gupta, marked it’s 1 year anniversary with a virtual program on October 8 th 2023.

The initiative is based on Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King and Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s message of peace and non violence and was launched on October 2 nd 2022 Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday marked by the UN as International Day of Non Violence, 2022 being it’s 15th Anniversary.

The program started with a Ganesh Vandana played on Sitar by Mrs. Meenaxi Sharma accompanied with Tabla from Haryana India. Mrs. Sharma received an award from Chief Minister of Haryana recently for her work. The official program then began with a US House of Representatives Proclamation presentation, a tribute to the Secretariat and Miss Gupta for her work in Global Peace by US Congressman Shri Thanedar of Michigan and playing of his pre recorded message as he was called away last minute to an urgent meeting.

The highlight of the program was presentation of Global Peace Secretariat’s inaugural Peace Champion Award to Miss Khushi Nigam, Founder of Global Peace Researcher’s Group in Delhi India engaging  30+ youth globally doing research on Mahatma Gandhi’s message of non violence. This award was presented at the Gandhi Smriti by Dr. Vedabhyas Kundu on Miss Gupta’s behalf.

The second half of the program was of Indian classical dance performance by Mrs. Neena Gulati’s Triveni Dance School student and Okra African American dance troupe. Mrs. Gulati, a Boston area resident for many years, performed at the UN with First Lady Mrs. Jackie Kennedy as Chief Guest.

The program ended with showing of a video on Mashantuket Pequot Museum, largest native American Museum in the US, in celebration of Indigenous People’s to on October 9th 2023. And Vote of Thanks by Secretary General Kumu Gupta.

Kumu Gupta was nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for over 2 decades of volunteer work in women’s and children’s rights and global peace. Kumu served as member of the President’s Challenge Program of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition for 5 yrs under President Obama and is recipient of the Council’s Community Leadership Award & President’s Volunteer Service Award ( President’s Call to Service) Lifetime Achievement for 20+ yrs of volunteer community service in USA.
