Music Review - Bride And Prejudice

Due for release on 8th October, Bride and Prejudice is hitting all the headlines.
Starring Aishwariya Rai and Martin Henderson, the desi version of Jane Austen’s classic ‘Pride and Prejudice’ has Gurinder Chadha (Bend it like Beckham) as director. Wish they didn’t call it a Bollywood musical though!

This reviewer has always given Anu Malik his due. While the rest of the world dismissed his hits as flukes, we saw the merit in his compositions in the recent ‘Murder’ and 'Main Hoon Na'. That said, we turn to Malik’s international debut, ‘Balle Balle Amritsar to LA’ the Hindi version of ‘Bride and Prejudice’. Malik churns out tepid fare, with lame compositions and sorry tunes.

Sonu’s rndition of the title song 'Balle Balle' is disappointing; although it starts out fast paced, an about turn halfway down the song is disconcerting to say the least.

"Tumse Kahen Ya" by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik is pedestrian and easy to forget, ditto for the sad version sung by Alka later in the album.

'Payal bajake', penned by Dev Kohli and Gurinder's husband Paul Mayeda Berges and sung by Gayatri Iyer is also forgettable. The peppy ‘No life without wife’ put our teeth on edge with its inane and lame lyrics. ‘Lo shaadi aayi’ sung by Kunal Ganjawala, Anu Malik, Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan and Gayatri Iyer is a chameleon of sorts with the tempo changing every now and then!
' Dola Dola ' the 'garba' track written by Anu Malik has Gayatri Iyer' shows her versatility with songs of all kinds and could be an instant hit as Navaratri approaches.
While the film may become a hit, the music most certainly has a very slim chance of becoming one!
