Hari Vidya Bhawan Recieves Books On India For 'India Corner'

Hari Vidya Bhawan in Rhode Island is selected by FIA-New England to be one of the first recipients of a collection of books on India under Indian Consulate’s “India Corner” initiative

 

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, FIA-New England team visited Hari Vidya Bhawan, a volunteer-run school teaching Hindi language and Indian history and culture, to the next generation of Indian American children in Rhode Island for almost 3 decades. Hari Vidya Bhawan’s current Director, Mr. Brijesh Rai, had invited the FIA-New England team to join the school’s Holi celebration.

 

Holi celebrations started with a variety of cultural programs performed by the talented students of Hari Vidya Bhawan. After the cultural programs, executive committee members of both organizations were invited to the stage.  Mrs. Saroj Gupta, widow of Hari Vidya Bhawan’s founding director, Professor Ram Gupta, was honored. She, along with Hari Vidya Bhawan’s director, Mr. Brijesh Rai, FIA New England President, Mr. Abhishek Singh, and distinguished member of the Indian American community in New England, Mr. Sandeep Asija, led the ribbon cutting ceremony for gifting of a set of books on India, provided by the Indian Consulate in New York, to Hari Vidya Bhawan.  Mr. Abhishek Singh explained the activities of FIA-New England to the audience and said that after meeting with the students and parent volunteers of Hari Vidya Bhawan, he is pleased with the decision to have picked Hari Vidya Bhawan as one of the first recipients of India-related books from Indian Consulate’s “India Corner” initiative.

Mr. Brijesh Rai thanked FIA-New England team, and felicitated Mr. Sandeep Asija, who expressed his appreciation and deep satisfaction about decades long continued commitment of Hari Vidya Bhawan to teach Hindi language and Indian culture to the next generation. Mr. Asija praised the dedication of children as well as parent volunteers making significant time commitment every week. Mr. Asija then read an official Citation issued by the Governor of Rhode Island, Mr. Daniel McKee, to Mr. Hans Maheshwari, one of the founding directors of Hari Vidya Bhawan.  Mr. Brijesh Rai received the Citation on behalf of Mr. Maheshwari.

Mrs. Jyoti Singh told the students of Hari Vidya Bhawan that the books are for them as well as for the teachers and parents and said that they all take full advantage of the books in their education. She informed them that additional books will be gifted in subsequent years whenever new books are made available under the India Corner initiative. Mr. Rakesh Kavsari thanked Hari Vidya Bhawan for inviting FIA-New England team to the Holi celebration and for continuing all the good work. After the event, lunch was served by Hari Vidya Bhawan, following which children went outside to play colorful Holi.
