Low calorie (low-cal) salads are great for weight loss. Salads are good source of fiber, vitamin A, B-complex and C, as they are loaded with vegetables and fruits. Low calorie salads are guaranteed to delight you, without using fattening ingredients like oil or cream or other rich ingredients in their dressing. So, when making low-cal salads, it is important to pay attention to every ingredient. You must go for low-cal yogurt, low-cal paneer, low-cal dressing. Light salads are made with vibrant ingredients and flavor-givers, which add a splash of colors and flavor to the meal. Such salads provide adequate fiber and nutrients, these salads are perfect to have any time of the day. They keep you full for long time and avoid snack sprees. In addition, the fiber also helps lose weight if the rest of the person’s diet is also contributing to to it.

Low-cal salads are ideally quick and easy to make as you always have ingredients like cucumber, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, zucchini, onions, lemons, lettuce, apples etc. Some salads can be eaten plain with just a simple seasoning of salt and pepper, but most salads require a dressing to improve their taste and texture and convert simple ingredients into an exotic salad. Nonetheless, use different herbs, spices, masalas, and low-cal and low-fat dressings that aid weight loss.

Making salads is not just mix-and-match your ingredients and come up with an endless variety of salads. However, you need to follow food combining guidelines in order to get the benefits of foods that you eat and improve the quality of digestion. You will also be able to make best food combining choices by electing foods that aid digestion, and either combining those foods with like items that are energetically similar or eating them alone and waiting half an hour or so before introducing other foods to the body. Some of the best salads you can easily prepare at home for weight loss.

 

Spiced chickpea salad

·         Wash and place baby spinach on a plate.

·         Soak chickpeas overnight and boil in salted water. Drain & toss them on spinach.

·         Chop some onion and fresh coriander; grate some carrot and fresh coriander.

·         For the dressing, use lemon juice, cumin powder, chaat masala, black pepper and a dash of red chilli flakes.

·         Mix well. Adjust salt to taste.

·         Serve with a spoon of yogurt (optional).

Cucumber Raita

·         Place less sour yogurt in a mixing bowl. Whisk it until smooth. Add salt, chaat masala and roasted ground cumin.

·         Taste the yogurt and adjust the seasoning to your liking.

·         Add chopped/grated cucumber and cilantro.

·         ¼ teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder (optional) or ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder or cayenne pepper

·         Serve it at normal temperature since chilled raita makes your Jatharagni Manda (digestive fire weak) that leads to indigestion.

Moong Dal Kosambari

·         Soak moong dal for a couple of hours. They provide a lovely crunch to the salad.

·         Grate carrots, grated/finely chopped cucumber, cilantro, and green chilies.

·         Add some grated fresh coconut.

·         Use some mustard seeds, curry leaves for tempering, and make the salad taste delicious.

Mixed beans salad

·         1 cup mixed boiled beans (Rajma, black-eye peas, and Chick peas)

·         Add some chopped spring onion, tomato cubes, green chilies, and coriander.

·         Squeeze some lemon juice, chaat masala, black salt to taste.

Crunchy Cabbage Salad

·         In a large bowl, mix shredded cabbage, boiled edamame/any kind of beans, some spring onion, and cilantro and sesame seeds.

·         Whisk together all the dressing ingredients. Season with salt green chilli paste as needed.

·         Toss to combine and serve

Spinach and cucumber salad

·         Finely chop the spinach, cucumber, onion, and some coriander for flavor

·         Add some roaster sesame seeds

·         Squeeze some lime juice, chat masala, and salt to taste

·         Mix well and serve it

 

Green Salad

·         Combine Iceberg lettuce, some spouts, broccoli florets in a bowl, toss well

·          Squeeze some lemon juice and little black salt to taste.
