White Lily & Night Rider

Heartiest congratulations to Jay, Madhu, and the team for the success of exciting theatrical performance on April 7th, featuring the play “White Lily and Night Rider”. This captivating production features National award-winning actress Sonali Kulkarni alongside Milind Phatak, who is also the writer and director of the drama.

Written by Milind Phatak and the late Rasikaoo Joshi (the original Bhakti), it speaks the language & emotions of today. The humor is the play’s highlight along with outstanding performance by the leads Sonali Kulkarni (who played Bhakti) and Milind Phatak ( who played Keshav) They managed to enact scenes with even the silliest of dialogues and expressions brilliantly. This is one of the main reasons what makes this two-act long play so enjoyable.

It is a script which is the focal point for White Lily & Night Rider’s success. The story is a believable take on how evolving technology brings in its own sets of problems for people. Keshav & Bhakti are today’s people – slightly beyond the typical marriage age but gung-ho on finding someone special. That means using technology for their benefit. But their actual meetings & compatibility leaves both awkward. Bhakti’s insecurities and honest nature leaves her panicking when things ‘seem’ slightly odd. Keshav, alternatively, comes across as someone who prefers escapism to face off. When the two natures collide, everything takes a different turn.

The play uses just the right amount of humor and irony to highlight the difference between real and online personalities of people which can often lead to mismatched expectations.

A common conclusion surrounding the downfall of relationships is based on the distorted notion that falling in love has more to do with living in a fantasy and falling out of love has more to do with facing reality.

What I loved about White Lily & Night Rider is that the play does not offer any solution, rather it makes you think. Has the concept of true love lost somewhere in translation? Do people invariably find comfort in a fantasy world of romance?

The play is thought-provoking and especially relevant in this internet age, where our online avatars have taken importance over our real ones. It offers a glimpse into the human heart and the power of connection across time and space.

The event was held at J. Everett Collins Center for the Performing Arts, an ideal venue, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to showcasing the best in theater and performing arts.

Oscar Wilde once said, “The stage is not merely the meeting place of all the arts, but is also the return of art to life” and this is so beautifully proven by Sonali and Milind in their production- White Lily.

The success of the event, in no small part, goes to Jay-Ho The Jay Kumar Show and the entire team. Thank you for making this event a reality. Your event coordination, people management, set design, logistical support has made such a big event successful. Thank you for your genuine smiles, gracious and kind hospitality.
