Double Header: Sarod Recital - Abhishek Lahiri And Vocal Performance - Pt. Amit Mukerjee

We are restarting live Baithak concerts at our Framingham venue. We have the pleasure of opening with a double header evening of Hindustani Classical Music featuring a Sarod recital by Abhishek Lahiri with Subrata Bhattacharya on tabla, followed by a vocal recital by Pt. Artist Bios:ABHISEK LAHIRI, one of the youngest President Award-winning, "A"-grade sarod artists of All India Radio & National TelevisionKolkata, has won the hearst of discerning audience worldwide with his maturity, depth, and perfection already at the age of 29. Abhisek was intiated in sarod at the early age of 5 and trained under the tutelage of his father and guru, eminent sarod maestro Pandit Alok Lahiri, and became one of his premiere disciples. Abhiseks sarod recital has a blend of three major gharanas(schools) of sarod playing: Shajahanpur, Senia Maihar and Senia Bangash gharana (Gwalior). Abhiseksplaying reflects subtlety, aestheticism and nostalgic spirituality while combing it with resonant power and intensity to captivate the listener wiht the beauty and originality of his sarod playing. Abhisek has performed in the Europe Parliament in France as well as in the Canada Culture Days in Hamilton, Canada on invitation of The Malhar Group. Abhisek is empaneled member artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. He has released several cds of solos and group recordings, and is the recipient of numerous awards.SUBRATA BHATTACHARYA is a tabla player of note on the Indian classical music scenario, Subratais amazingly talented and his accomplishments and achievements in the field of percussion music haveearned him name and enviable fame. Subrata is one of the leading tabla players in India today. Few tablaplayers have enjoyed such instant recognition and acclaim among concert audiences. Subratas solorenderings reveal his knowledge of the art and his creativity at their best.  Pt Amit Mukerjee represents the famous tradition of the late Ustad Amir Khan’s individualistic school of Hindustani Classical Music. He was trained under Pandit Shankar Mazumdar, a very close and senior disciple of the late Ustad. Amit Mukerjee was fortunate enough to attend many sessions of riyaz and explanation of the points by Amir Khan Sahib. Amit has grasped the essence of his distinctive  gayaki  which is immediately noticeable in his presentation. Today he is perhaps the senior most exponent of the INDORE GHARANA who received an authentic talim. His music is cerebral and yet laced with grace, aesthetics and emotional content. It is a pleasure to hear him sing some of the rare taranas of Ustad Amir Khan. 

Nitin Mitta is one of the most prominent young tabla players of his generation. Apart from being a dynamic soloist, he is a highly sought after accompanist who has performed with some of India’s most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians including; Pandit Jasraj, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Janardan Mitta, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Nishat Khan, Pandit Nayan Ghosh, and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, to name a few.Nitin has also made a mark as a versatile collaborator in other music spheres. He joined forces with 2010 Grammy Nominated Pianist, Vijay Iyer and electric guitarist R. Prasanna to produce a studio album titled “Tirtha” which blends elements of contemporary jazz with the North and South Indian traditional ragas and compositions. 

Nitin received his early training in Hyderabad from Pandit G. Satyanarayana and later from Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar of Mumbai. Both of Nitin's gurus are disciples of the late Ustad Amir Hussain Khan Saheb, legendary doyen of the Farukhabad Gharana.

Hirak Modi has been playing harmonium since the age of eight. He studied Hindustani Classical music with Shri Bhavesh Janiin Mumbai, and was awarded the Sangeet Vishrad certificate in 2013. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California and is currently working as a software engineer.
