Why do we celebrate Anant Chaturdashi?

Anant Chaturdashi / Ganesh Visarjan is a festival observed and celebrated by Hindus and Jains. Anant Chaturdashi is the last day of the ten-day-long Ganeshotsav or Ganesh Chaturthi festival and is also called Ganesh Chaudas when devotees bid adieu to the deity Ganesha by immersing (visarjana) his idols in water on Anant Chaturdashi.

On this auspicious day, Pandavas observed a whole day fast to win the war against Kauravas and they won the war. People worship Satyanarayana, an eternal form of Lord Vishnu during Anant Chaturdashi. As a part of the celebration, people observe a day long fast and tie sacred thread while performing the Puja.
