Indian Institutes of Technology Society in New England (IITSINE) had annual picnic at Saturday, August 7th, 2004, at the Cochituate State Park, Natick, MA. About 100 alumni from all IITs and their family members gathered to meet old friends, enjoy good food, play games and of course chat in the lovely surroundings and perfect weather.

The picnic began with high energy with the early birds setting up the tables and the picnic area. People who showed up early also got hot samosas and delicious appetizers. The grill was set-up and the fires were lit by Vivek Varshney to heat food and prepare tea. Roasted corn in the desi way and along with boiled corn was served. The best part of the picnic was that most of the food home made. Kamlesh Dang, Vayajanti Chhabra, Manju Aggarwal, Subhash Varshney, Dwarika Agarwal, Meetu Gupta, Satyendra Agarwal, and Geeta Goela were among the ones who provided exotic India dishes.

There was not just food there were plenty of games that kept the fun rolling. Few of them got involved in cricket and a few were flying kites. Most of the people preferred to stay near the grill and talk to each other.

After the food the game of “Tambola” or bingo was organized. Few lucky ones won prizes but everyone joined the spirit of the game. Vijay Sukhdeve was the lucky big winner of ‘Full House’. The picnic concluded hot masala chai.

IITSINE has been organizing the picnic for several years and it has been a bit hit all the time. One of the first timers asked, “I haven’t done or paid anything, how does the picnic happen?” Vishwa Shukla has been the man behind the scenes this year making the phone calls and sending emails to make the picnic a success. Most importantly, members who have been attending the picnic in past bring delicious homemade food to make it all possible. “Thanks to all the participants whose attendance made the picnic a real success. In this picnic our younger alumni were well represented,” said Vinay Aggarwal, President of IIT SINE.

IITSINE's next event is on August 22nd on "The Story Behind Lara Networks - A Study in Entrepreneurship" at Hartwell House, Lexington, MA. The speaker is Kamal Gunsagar, currently VP, Data Communication Division Cypress Semiconductor and Founder and Ex-CEO of Lara Networks, which was sold to Cypress Semiconductor for over $200 Million.
