– Offered Free of Charge –

For the first time in the organization’s 100-year-old history, Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), the nonprofit society founded by preeminent world spiritual teacher Paramahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi), will offer its annual World Convocation both in person and online — making it available for thousands of seekers worldwide who will come together for spiritual renewal and fellowship. The Convocation takes place August 14-20, 2022 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Because of these uniquely challenging times, SRF is offering both the in-person and online 2022 Convocation free of charge so that all may attend.

More than 30,000 people around the globe registered for last year’s Convocation, which was held exclusively online due to the pandemic. Led by monks and nuns of SRF, this year’s Convocation is expected to draw a similar number of participants and will feature an immersive program, including group meditations, kirtan (devotional chanting), classes on the yoga teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, and virtual and in-person pilgrimage tours to sacred sites in Southern California established by Yogananda.

Widely regarded as the father of Yoga in the West, Yogananda introduced India’s ancient science of Yoga to millions through his transcontinental public lecture tours during the 1920s and 1930s, his many published works, and his SRF Lessons, a home-study series on the science and meditation techniques of Kriya (Raja) YogaReader’s Digest ranked his spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi as one of the 20 Best Autobiographies of All Time.

While technique review classes are open to students of the SRF Lessons only, the public is invited to attend all of the “How-To-Live” classes — which focus on various aspects of yoga and meditation as well as how to use spiritual principles in everyday life for greater clarity, peace, and inner strength. The group meditations and kirtans are also open to all as are special video presentations on Yogananda’s life and work.

The classes on the “How-to-Live” teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda will include such topics as: “How Everyday Thoughts Can Change Our Lives,” “Health and Healing: A Spiritual Perspective,” “Transforming Life’s Obstacles Into Stepping Stones for Spiritual Success,” and “Is Sharing and Selflessness a Part of Your Daily Life?” All online classes will be presented in English, but also will be available in the weeks to come with subtitles in multiple languages, including English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Japanese. At the heart of Paramahansa Yogananda’s SRF teachings is the science of Kriya Yoga, which includes a sacred technique of meditation that serves to quiet both body and mind, making it possible to withdraw one’s energy and attention from the usual turbulence of thoughts, emotions, and sensory perceptions. In the clarity of that inner stillness, one comes to experience a deepening interior peace and attunement with one’s true self.

Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) is the international nonprofit spiritual organization founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda to introduce to people of all races, cultures, and creeds the ancient science and philosophy of Yoga and its time-honored tradition of meditation. Through its spiritual and humanitarian service, the society seeks to foster greater harmony and goodwill among the diverse peoples and nations of the world, and a deeper understanding of the underlying unity of all religions. Together with its sister organization, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS), SRF/YSS has grown to include 800 temples, retreats and meditation centers throughout the world.

Paramahansa Yogananda first arrived in America in 1920 from his native India, an invited delegate to an International Congress of Religious Liberals convening in Boston, Massachusetts, where he delivered a speech on the science of religion, marking a pivotal point for Yoga in the West. He founded Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) that same year to disseminate his Kriya Yoga teachings. Today he is widely regarded as one of the preeminent spiritual figures of modern times and the father of Yoga in the West. His spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, continues to be recognized as one of the world’s most influential autobiographies. An award-winning documentary film about Paramahansa Yogananda’s life and work, Awake: the Life of Yogananda, was released in 2014.
