The period is early 1800’s, an era of grand balls, young debutantes, dashing dukes and aspiring mothers eager to marry off their daughters to the most eligible bachelor in town. To add to this  regency era drama is intense rivalry, scheming and plotting by these players. Mr Malcolm list has all these elements with a unique touch. The roles played by the actors are racially diverse and add a freshness to the plot.

It is a pleasant watch to see Jeremey Malcolm (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) and Selina (Freida Pinto) along with Julia ( Zawe Ashton) in the lead roles. Each of the actors hold on their own and display immense talent.

The movie is based on a book by Suzanne Allain and has a twist to its tale.The handsome Mr Malcolm wants a wife, desperately but has one caveat who he chooses - She has to fulfill a list of requirements before he commits to a life of matrimony!

He keeps the list handy to check if the lady in question meets his standards. The story begins with one such lady, Julia Thistlewaite whom we meet but when we think all is going well, Julia falters on the right response to an issue and fails to make the perfect 10.  Spurned and scorned, she decides to take revenge and  sets up her friend Selina, who is not used to upper class society to extract revenge on him. Innocent Selina succumbs to her friends plotting but realizes soon that her opinion of Mr Malcolm differs from her friend. A battle of wits and counter lists ensues, and the movie takes us on a journey of expectations, hopes and a budding romance that keeps the viewer glued to the screen.
