IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation Boston chapter hosted a small alumni interactive session on May 18, 2022 for its alumni members in the Boston area. This was a special opportunity for all of us to meet with the Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Subhasis Chaudhari, to hear of the great programs and initiatives being undertaken at our alma mater, and to also meet in-person with fellow IIT Bombay alumni from the area after more than two years. Prof. Chaudhari was accompanied by Ravishankar and Nidhi Chhabra from the development office.

They talked about IITB as Leading Global Technology Institute, new program such as Koita Center for Digital Health, Ashank Desai Center for Policy Studies, Center for Machine Intelligence and Data Science, Biosciences and Bioengineering and BS in Economics, and activities in the areas of Entrepreneurship and Industry Collaborations.

The four Centers of Excellence are focused are Data Science, Machine Learning, AI and Cloud Computing; Sustainability; Manufacturing and Healthcare.

IITB today is a very different institute today compared to when most of us graduated. It has nearly 14,000 students today with 25% of them women, and approximately 40% UG and 60% PG.

The need for additional infrastructure along with hostels are currently the highest priority.
