Press Release
03/31/2022

For the very first time, Ekal USA presented Ekal Dakshin Dhamaka, a virtual musical fundraiser featuring popular Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam film songs on March 26, 8:30 pm EST. Ekal Vidyalaya is an organization bringing education and holistic development to very remote rural villages in India.

Traditionally, Ekal USA has hosted Bollywood musical fundraisers. Ekal Dakshin Dhamaka was envisioned to give visibility to the extensive presence of Ekal in South India. In Tamilnadu Ekal has 586 schools providing primary education to nearly 15,000 children. In Tamilnadu, the schools are in Namakkal, Ooty, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sirkali, Thindukal, Tirunelveli and Virudhachalam. In Telangana Ekal has 1256 schools with nearly 38,000 students in the schools. In Andhra Pradesh, the schools are in Anantapur, Chittor, Kadapa, Kurnool, Prakasam, Rajmadri, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. In Telangana they are in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Kamam, Medak,Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Palomar, Rangareddy and  Warangal. In Karnataka, the schools are in Bagalkot, Bidar, Mysore, Gulbarga, Gangavati, Chamarajnagar, Chikkamanguluru. In Kerala, the schools are in  Wayanad and Idukki.

The event featured wonderful singers including a child prodigy, just 5 years old. Starting out with “Pramadavanam” a Malayalam song  from His Highness Abdullah ending with the famous rocking Kannada number Alladsu Alladsu from the film Chowka, the singers presented a very entertaining musical fare.

US and Canada event teams and volunteers from each Chapter worked hard to take the EKAL movement to South Indian communities through the music event in Telugu, Tamil, Kerala, and Kannada languages. Thanks to all the community organizations like TANA, ATTA, NATS, TACA for  their help in promoting and participating in the event.

The event set off a new trend for a multi-lingual musical presentation from Ekal. It is hoped to expand the base of Ekal donors and attract greater support to the South Indian Ekal initiates.
