Back in business: In-person campus visits are back

The spring semester has begun and admissions offices are now preparing for in-person campus tours and information sessions. Over the past year, many universities only offered virtual or self-guided tours. As conditions improve with COVID-19, tours from current students and information sessions with admissions counselors are coming back!

Visiting in-person provides insight into the student community, culture and academic experience. There is no substitute for seeing the campus facilities and resources first hand, not to mention the surrounding town or environment. Further, by connecting with the admissions office, you are showing your interest. Some universities even consider “demonstrated interest” in application decisions.

Maximize your time on campus by:

● Talking to students. Make sure to also interact with students after the tour while exploring on your own.
● Observing student life. Eating in a dining hall and visiting a student lounge will help you see how students spend their time.
● Talking with faculty members. The admissions office can help arrange meetings for you. Some departments offer appointments on their website.
● Not sure what questions to ask?

Here are some options to ask anybody you meet.

● What is your favorite school tradition?
● Do you have a favorite place to study or visit on campus?
● What do students do for fun?
● Why did you decide to attend this university?
● Is there anything you would change about your school?

Walking around campus and meeting current students will help you determine if this school is a good fit for you.
