HRH King Bhumibol - Royalty born in the USA
HRH King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was born right here in Massachusetts , at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge on Dec 5th 1927, and was marked with ' King Bhumibol Day ' in Cambridge by a Mayoral proclamation,
where his father Prince Mahidol Adulyadej was enrolled in the public health program at Harvard University, and is celebrated as Thailand's National Day as well as U.N. World Soil Day for his dedication to farmers in Thailand. The proclamation was requested by Miss Kumu Gupta who comes from a royal family on her mother's side and felt that is a befitting way to celebrate the legacy HRH King Bhumibol, longest ruling monarch in the world and City of Cambridge's historic place in Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the world.
In 2003, a monument was gifted to City of Cambridge by The King of Thailand Birthplace Foundation (KTBF), a MA Thai American non profit and is located in Harvard Square outside Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
