Mohana Madhuram
Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi – Violin Duet
Carnatic Classical – Instrumental

Melody has been the trademark of the Lalgudi bani. It is but natural that this bani is being carried forward by Shri Krishnan and Smt. Vijayalakshmi, children of the violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. The CD Mohana Madhuram is a classic example of Carnatic violin at its best.

The CD opens with a traditional Muthuswamy Dikshitar kriti – Sri Mahaganapathiravathumam in the raaga Gaula. This is followed by a quick Oracupu Juchethi in the Raagam Kannada Gaula. The main piece is Nannu Palimpa in the raagam Mohanam. Traditional favorites such as Gnanamosagaradha, Alai Payude have been presented in this compilation.

The hallmark of the Lalgudi tradition has been their ability to make the violin sing. This is true of this compilation as well. The compositions of this CD have been carefully selected and presented thereby giving it a “Concert” like feel. The mridangam by V. Kamalakar Rao (disciple of Late Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer) is subdued and restrained and contributes to making this CD worth a listen.
