Catamaran: South Asian American Writing

Press Release
07/08/2004

Catamaran: South Asian American Writing, the first South Asian literary print magazine devoted to South Asian American creative artists and writers, will be coming out with its second issue in mid-August. The debut issue of Catamaran (which had a special feature on the Kashmiri-American poet, the late Agha Shahid Ali) came out in December 2003 and was extremely well-received. Catamaran's editorial board continues to be its main strenghth, with Rajini Srikanth, Shona Ramaya, Samir Dayal, Vyviane Loh, and poetry editor, Vijay Seshadri, who is one of this year's Guggenheim fellowship recipients. The number of submissions for the second issue were overwhelming, and has resulted in another exciting issue.

The second issue showcases more brilliant new South Asian American writers and artists like Siona Benjamin, Shankar Vedantam, Majid Mohiuddin, Vikas Menon, Usha Akella, Devalina Guha-Roy, Sahar Rizvi, Brenden Varma, Ramiza Koya... The special feature is a thought-provoking interview with Pakistani-American writer, Tahira Naqvi along with her short fiction.
