Indo-Americans in the New England area are planning to be part of fundraisers organized by the Kerry Campaign and to hold a South Asian only fundraising event at Mantra Restaurant.

The first event is one focused on women’s issue. Titled “Women Investing in Change-Conversation with John Kerry” it is an event where Kerry will address women related issues. The event will be at the Sheraton Boston on Monday July 12, 2004 at 12:00 noon and will be moderated by a dynamic woman, ex-governor of Texas, Ann Richards. Gail Ahluwalia and Dr. Shobha Sequeria are the Vice-Chairs for the event.

On the evening of July 12th, an event titled “The Pre-Party” will be held at 6 pm at the Fleet Harbor Pavilion also known as the Fleet Boston Pavilion. All political leaders from MA will be invited and majority will be there.

“These events are more grass roots events where the minimum entry fee is only $250,” says Sameer Desai, CEO of Aditi Inc, who is spearheading the mantra fundraising effort. “It is a great opportunity to show support for our local Senator" who Desai feels is poised to win the 2004 election.

On July 14th, 2004 a South Asian only event has been organized at Mantra restaurant. The event is targeted towards young professionals who would like to support Kerry’s Candidature. ”Our event is gaining a lot of momentum and notice. The event was one of three, out of 20 upcoming, highlighted by Alan Solomont, the National Kerry finance chair, for the energetic response it is receiving,” said Nishith Acharya who is part of the organizing committee. “We hope it will be a great event where young professionals get to meet and greet while enjoying a great meal at one of the finest Indian restaurants. All this for a suggested contribution of only a $100,” said Acharya.
